The Hanns Eisler Komponistenforum and Hanns Eisler Performance price is a year since 1993 by the Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" Berlin (HfM) to promote the composition and interpretation of new contemporary music conferred Music Prize .

For 20 years the prize was entitled Hanns Eisler Prize for Composition and Interpretation of Contemporary Music .

When the name was changed in 1993, the composition prize was transformed into a composers forum, the focus of which was placed on the dialogue between musicians, composers, lecturers and experts.

The lecturers in the composition department will perform selected compositions from the applications as part of a concert. Two juries then decide on the awarding of prizes in the areas of composition and interpretation.

The jury for the composition prize is made up of lecturers from the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music in Berlin , a representative of the Berlin University of the Arts and representatives from Berlin's musical life from outside the university .

The jury of the interpretation prize usually includes instrumental and singing lecturers as well as lecturers from the composition and theory area of the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin.

The awarding of the prizes takes place after the decision of the juries directly after the concert. The music prize is endowed with prize money of 2,500 euros. Before the name change, there was an endowment of 5,000 euros.
