Marko Nikodijević (born January 4, 1980 in Subotica ) is a Serbian composer .

life and work

Marko Nikodijević studied composition, mathematics and physics at the Belgrade University of the Arts from 1995 . His composition teacher was initially Srdjan Hofman , from 2002 to 2003 Zoran Erić . In 2003 he moved to Germany, where he completed postgraduate studies with Marco Stroppa at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart (until 2005). From 2008 to 2009, private music theory studies with Bernd Asmus followed .

In terms of composition, Nikodijević uses methods borrowed from mathematics ( fractals ), spectral music, combines traditional instruments with digitally generated sounds and also takes up elements of techno and pop . His catalog raisonné contains mainly compositions for chamber ensemble, including ketamine / black for trumpet, trombone, guitar, cello, piano, 2 percussionists and live electronics (premiered at the Donaueschinger Musiktage in 2012 ). In 2014, during the Munich Biennale, his chamber opera Vivier - A Night Protocol was premiered, which revolves around the life and death of the composer Claude Vivier .

Marko Nikodijević received several awards for his compositions, including the composer's prize at the Brandenburg Biennale in 2008 , first prize at the International Gaudeamus Muziekweek in Amsterdam 2010 for cvetić, kućica… - la lugubre gondola [funeral music based on Franz Liszt] and in 2013 the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation in Munich. From 2012 to 2013 he was a fellow at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. In 2014 he was awarded the German Music Author Award (Young Talent Award).
