Thorsten Becker (writer)

Thorsten Becker (born September 4, 1958 in Oberlahnstein ) is a German writer .

Life

Thorsten Becker grew up in Cologne . After attending grammar school , he began acting training in Vienna at the Max Reinhardt Seminar . He then studied philosophy , history , sociology and theater studies at the Free University in Berlin . He worked as an actor and assistant director in Cologne, Stuttgart and Bochum and made numerous trips, including to the Middle East and North Africa . Today he lives as a freelance writer in Berlin. The author writes poems, essayistic and autobiographical texts as well as dramatic scenes and translates from French.

Thorsten Becker is a member of the German PEN .

Awards

Thorsten Becker received the Aspect Literature Prize and the FAZ Prize for Literature in 1985 and the Turin Premio Grinzane Cavour in 1990 . He was funded in 2002 with a residency grant at Künstlerhof Schreyahn and in 2008 with a Villa Massimo grant . In 2005 he was town clerk for Rheinsberg .
