Magnus Gustaf Adolf Lindberg (born June 27, 1958 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish composer .

Life

Magnus Lindberg studied composition at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki with Einojuhani Rautavaara and Paavo Heininen and with Vinko Globokar in Paris. He is friends with the Finnish conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen .

In 1992 he received one of the renowned Music Awards of the Royal Philharmonic Society in London, and in 2000 he won the first European Composition Prize at the Young Euro Classic Festival in Berlin. In 2003 Lindberg was awarded the Finnish Wihuri Sibelius Prize .

In 2008/09 he was a juror at the 2nd International Uuno Klami Composition Competition together with Kalevi Aho , who was the jury chairman, and Anders Eliasson .

From September 2009 to 2012 he was composer in residence with the New York Philharmonic and composed the work EXPO , which opened the first concert of the new chief conductor Alan Gilbert .

In 2014 he was elected as an honorary foreign member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and in 2015 of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
