Young Euro Classic is an international music festival in Berlin , in which youth symphony orchestras from all over the world take part. It takes place every summer in the Konzerthaus Berlin under the motto “This is where the future plays” .

The German Association of Friends of European Youth Orchestras (DFK) launched the Young Euro Classic festival in 2000. In addition to the idea of ​​offering young orchestral musicians from all over the world a platform, the festival is also intended to make a contribution to openness and dialogue, for Europe, Berlin and society.

The European Composer Prize is awarded by the Governing Mayor of Berlin as part of the Young Euro Classic. The award will be given to the best or German premiere presented at the festival. The decision on the award of the € 5,000 composer prize is made by an honorary jury made up of ten music-loving amateurs plus a chairman.

Young Euro Classic sponsors

Young Euro Classic in Germany and worldwide

Based on the successes in Berlin, Young Euro Classic concerts also took place in other locations. In Germany u. a. Used in concert halls in Essen , Hamburg , Darmstadt , Munich and Kassel .

Young Euro Classic also designs projects abroad. Not least through in-house productions with newly founded bi- and multinational ensembles, the festival provides impetus for the development of the youth orchestra scene worldwide.

Awards

In 2007, Young Euro Classic was recognized in the “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas” competition organized by the “ Germany - Land of Ideas ” initiative. With the LANXESS Young Euro Classic China Tour 2007 won LANXESS AG in the United States the Gold Award in the category Sponsorship at the Mercury Excellence Awards 2007/2008. In 2008, Gabriele Minz, the director of the festival, was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Berlin and the festival was nominated as “Cultural Brand of the Year” as part of the most successful marketing strategies for cultural projects in German-speaking countries. In 2015 Young Euro Classic won the title of “European Cultural Brand of the Year 2015”. In 2016, the Israeli Embassy Berlin awarded the festival a medal for services to bilateral relations between Israel and Germany. In 2017, the Young Euro Classic audience was nominated for Audience of the Year and reached the final round of the competition.

Young Euro Connect

In 2005, Young Euro Classic established a literature format with Young Euro Connect as part of the festival: Young authors from Europe under or around the age of 30 wrote personal texts about Europe and presented them at the festival, supported by well-known German-speaking actors . Young Euro Connect took place for the last time in 2011. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Young Euro Classic in 2019, the organizers revived the format by informing former Young Euro Connect participants Michal Hvorecky, Saša Stanišić, Tanja Maljartschuk and Jonas T. Bengtsson about lost hopes and new perspectives for Europe to reflect.
