Unirea Urziceni (1976-2011)

The Stadionul Tineretului is a football stadium in the Romanian city of Urziceni in the Bărăgan steppe. It has seats for 7,000 spectators and was used by the Unirea Urziceni club as the venue for their home games.

history

The Stadionul Tineretului was built in 1976. From then until 2011 it was used as a home by the Unirea Urziceni association. The club has won the Romanian championship once ( 2008/09 ). For this reason, they took part in the UEFA Champions League in the following season . There they met VfB Stuttgart from Germany , FC Sevilla from Spain and Glasgow Rangers from Scotland , so that Urziceni did not make it to the round of 16. By reaching third place, they continued to play in the Europa League , where they failed in the round of the last 16 teams at Liverpool FC . In 2011 Unirea Urziceni was dissolved due to financial problems, so that no sports club is currently playing in the Stadionul Tineretului.

The Stadionul Tineretului, however, could not be used by Unirea for these international games, as it does not meet the UEFA requirements for international games despite the expansion that was carried out in 2005 after Unirea Urziceni surprisingly rose to League 1 . For this reason, the European Cup games took place in Bucharest .
