Urziceni is a city in Ialomița County in Romania .
location
Urziceni is located in the Wallachian Plain on the Ialomița river , in the middle of the Bărăgan steppe. The district capital Slobozia is located about 65 km east, the state capital Bucharest 55 km southwest.
history
Urziceni was first mentioned in a document in 1596. In the context of increasing regional trading activities, it received the status of a market in 1831, a rural community in 1864 and a town in 1895. In the 20th century, industry developed so that Urziceni became an economic center in the sparsely populated region in southeast Romania. Main industries are the production of ceramics, ferrite , alcohol, soybean oil, plastics, textiles and furniture. In 1995 Urziceni was named a municipality .

In the 2002 census, the city was registered with 17,094 inhabitants, including 16,562 Romanians , 493 Roma and 11 Hungarians .
traffic
Urziceni is an important railway junction; from here lines to Bucharest, Ploieşti , Făurei and Țăndărei . There are good bus connections to the surrounding towns. The European roads 60 and 85 , which share on the western outskirts, run through Urziceni .
Sports
The Romanian football champions 2009 Unirea Urziceni was based in Urziceni. For the second half of 2011, the club was relocated to Chiajna in the neighboring district of Ilfov and finally dissolved that same year.
