Fierbinți-Târg is a small town in Ialomița County in Romania .
Geographical location
Fierbinți-Târg lies on the edge of the Bărăgan steppe - part of the Wallachian Plain - on the right bank of the Ialomița river . The district capital Slobozia is located about 80 km east, the state capital Bucharest about 35 km southwest.
history
The oldest archaeological finds in the area of today's city date from the 2nd century BC. Fierbinți-Târg was first mentioned in 1620. At the end of the 17th century, the Wallachian prince Mihai Viteazul owned land here, and in the 18th and 19th centuries the noble Ghica family owned it .
In 1943, Fierbinți-Târg was connected to the Romanian railway network through the construction of the line from Bucharest to Făurei .
The most important branches of industry are agriculture, food processing and trade.
population
In 1930 there were around 5850 residents in the area of what is now the city, including around 50 Roma ; the rest were Romanians . The 2002 census counted 5253 inhabitants, including 5232 Romanians, 18 Roma, two Magyars and one Turk . Only about 1300 lived in Fierbinți-Târg itself, the rest in the three incorporated villages.

Fierbinți-Târg is on the railway line from Bucharest to Urziceni . In both directions there are currently (2009) around four local trains per day and direction. There are bus connections to Bucharest.
