Făurei is a small town in Brăila County in Romania .
location
Făurei is located in the Câmpia Brăilei plain, part of the Wallachian Plain south of the Buzău River . The district capital Brăila is located about 60 km northeast.
history
Făurei is a relatively young settlement that emerged in 1872 in connection with the construction of the Buzău – Brăila railway line . The station was named after the village of Făurei, located about 5 km to the southwest, which is now called Făurei-Sat and is part of the municipality of Surdila-Greci . Later, the new Gara Făurei station settlement became an important railway junction in southeastern Romania through the construction of the lines to Bucharest , Feteşti and Tecuci . As a result, the young settlement was renamed several times: in 1925 it was given the name of the politician Ion IC Brătianu , and in 1948 that of the communist Filimon Sârbu, who was murdered in 1941 . In 1952 it was renamed Făurei. From 1950 to 1968 the place was the seat of a Rajon within the then administrative division of Romania . In 1968 Făurei was declared a city. In addition to rail transport, the most important sources of income are agriculture, trade and the building materials industry.
