Josh Soares (born February 6, 1982 in Hamilton , Ontario ) is an Italian - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Stavanger Oilers in the GET league since the 2014/15 season .

Career

Soares began his active sport in 2001 when he played for the Hamilton Kilty B’s in the Ontario Junior Hockey League , which was renamed the Hamilton Red Wings for the 2002/03 season . In both seasons, the striker scored a total of over 200 points for Hamilton . For the 2003/04 season he moved to the Black Bears , the University of Maine's ice hockey team, for four years in the National Collegiate Athletic Association .

Soares began his senior career in 2007 when he was signed to the Peoria Rivermen from the American Hockey League . Most of the games completed the right-shooter, however, for the Alaska Aces , the farm team from the ECHL . With Alaska, Soares made it into the play-off final in 2009 and was considered one of the ECHL's top scorers.

Soares could not assert himself as a professional player in the American Hockey League, so he was active in the AHL during the 2008/09 season for both the Chicago Wolves and the Manitoba Moose . For the 2009/10 season , the Canadian then moved to the Kassel Huskies in the German Ice Hockey League . Soares already ran for the University of Maine together with his teammate Derek Damon there .

In September 2010, the attacker signed a contract with Växjö Lakers Hockey in HockeyAllsvenskan , with which he achieved promotion to the Elitserien at the end of the season. Soares played for one year in the Elitserien and in July 2012 he moved to the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian Ice Hockey League, where coach Tommy Samuelsson had already observed him in Sweden's second division. After 53 league and 15 play-off games, where Soares was one of the strongest offensive players alongside François Fortier and Benoît Gratton , a move to the Swedish second division at IK Oskarshamn followed at the end of April 2013 . The attacker, who is committed to the Swedish second division side, has played 24 league games in which he scored ten points with three goals and seven assists. On January 8, 2014 another change of the Italian-Canadian was announced; this time to the Graz 99ers in the Austrian ice hockey league , where he received the shirt number 97.
