The Herrentöbeli hydropower plant is located in the canton of St. Gallen , in Toggenburg near Nesslau-Krummenau . The plant belongs to St. Gallisch-Appenzellische Kraftwerke AG and produces around 3 GWh annually .
history
In 1886 Heinrich Kuster acquired the water rights near Nesslau-Krummenau for a modest generation of electricity for a treatment fee of 9 francs and 17 cents . When the system on the Thur was built, it had an electrical output of 8 hp . The plant was later taken over by a blacksmith's workshop until it passed into the hands of the Hofstetter weaving mill in 1944 . This operated the power plant until 1981, using it as the factory's own production facility. In 1945 the plant was expanded and now had an annual production of 800 MWh .
In 1981 the plant was taken over by St. Gallisch-Appenzellische Kraftwerke AG and was completely renewed in 1989/91, whereby the weir was increased by two meters. Today the plant with its two Kaplan turbines generates around 3 GWh annually . Like all other St. Gallisch-Appenzellische Kraftwerke AG power plants, it is remote-controlled from the headquarters in the Kubel power plant and runs automatically.
Location and access
The power plant is located below Hauptstrasse 16 and is connected to it by stairs and an inclined lift, which is used to transport heavy spare parts.
