The Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie (DSP) is a German selection orchestra founded in 1973 for talented young string instrumentalists based in Bonn .

history

The ensemble was founded in 1973 as a selection string orchestra of the music schools of the GDR and from 1976 was called the Radio Music School Orchestra (RMO). With the support of the federal government, it was taken over by the Association of German Music Schools in 1991 and has since been called the German Music School Orchestra (DMO). In 2003 the name was changed to Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie.

Members

The Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie consists of young people aged 11 to 19 who have qualified for participation in the orchestra through an audition. The ensemble members meet several times a year for rehearsals and concert tours. Former members now play in renowned orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic (concert master), the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra , the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and the orchestra of the Metropolitan Opera New York.

Concerts

The orchestra performs in the Konzerthaus Berlin , the Berlin Philharmonie , the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig , the Alte Oper Frankfurt , the Cologne Philharmonic and the Essen Philharmonic . Tours abroad are undertaken regularly, most recently to Ecuador for the 40th anniversary in 2013 . Concert recordings and studio recordings are regularly produced with Deutschlandradio .

Team of lecturers

The artistic work of the Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie is guaranteed by a chief conductor , since 2013 Wolfgang Hentrich, as well as a permanent team of lecturers made up of members of the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin , which acts as the sponsor orchestra of the DSP. The lecturers in 2014 are Bodo Przesdzing (first violin), Karin Kynast (second violin), Claudia Beyer (viola), Volkmar Weiche (cello) and Axel Buschmann (double bass).

The program includes great works of string orchestra literature from all musical epochs as well as rarities, extraordinary pieces and contemporary pieces.
