Clemens Maurer
  1. Josef Clemens Maurer (born March 13, 1900 in Püttlingen, † June 27, 1990 in Sucre, Bolivia)
    Redemptorist Missionary
    Awarded on July 8, 1967
    The bricklayer from Püttlingen worked as a missionary in Bolivia from 1927. He was ordained bishop in 1950, archbishop in 1951 and the first cardinal of Bolivia in 1967. In recognition of his important missionary work, his social service and his works of peace and international understanding, he was made the first honorary citizen of the city of Püttlingen.
  2. Johannes Hirschmann (born May 16, 1908 in Püttlingen, † February 8, 1981 in Duisburg)

    Awarded in 1973
    The Jesuit was a professor of moral and pastoral philosophy at the Philosophical-Theological University of St. Georgen in Frankfurt am Main. During the Second Vatican Council he was an advisor to Pope John XXIII. and Pope Paul VI.
  3. Karl Ludwig Rug (born October 5, 1901 in Püttlingen, † June 19, 1985 in Püttlingen)

    Awarded on December 11, 1981
    From 1928 onwards, Rug was pastor at the Evangelical Church Community in Kölln for four decades. During this time, an extensive family and local history was created. He initiated the rescue of the Bucherbach castle ruins from deterioration.
  4. Leo Altmeyer (born June 11, 1930 - May 2, 2010 in Püttlingen)

    Awarded on May 6, 1995
    Altmeyer belonged to the local council of Köllerbach and the town council of Püttlingen from 1956 to 1994. For 26 years (from 1968 to 1973 in Köllerbach, from 1974 to 1994 in Püttlingen) he held the post of first honorary alderman. In his professional sphere, he worked for the Saarbrücker Zeitung for 26 years as the chairman of the works council. Because of his commitment to the further development of the city as well as for his socio-political commitment in the context of his working life, he was awarded honorary citizenship.
  5. Rudolf Müller (* 1945 in Zeltingen)

    Awarded on February 8, 2009
    Müller was elected mayor after the city of Püttlingen was reorganized in 1974 as part of the municipal reorganization of the Saarland. He remained in office until his voluntary resignation on December 31, 2001. In recognition of his special services to the city, he was made an honorary citizen. This honored his outstanding achievements for the positive development of the city in his almost thirty-year tenure as mayor.
