Gerd Meyer (born November 24, 1944 in Köllerbach ) is a Saarland politician ( CDU ), former member of the Saarland state parliament and former managing director of Saartoto and Saarland-Spielbanken GmbH.

education and profession

Gerd Meyer attended the Staatliche Realgymnasium in Völklingen and passed his Abitur in 1964. He then completed a teaching degree at the Peter Wust University in Saarbrücken , which he completed in 1967 with his first teacher examination. From 1967 to 1975 he was a teacher at the secondary school in Heusweiler and passed the second teacher examination in 1970.

politics

Gerd Meyer has been a member of the CDU since 1963 and a member of the CDU Social Committees (CDA) since 1969 . From 1972 to 1979 he was regional chairman of the Junge Union Saar and in this function also co-author of the basic program “For a humane society” of the Junge Union Deutschlands (1973). Since 1973 he has been on the regional board of the CDU Saar and since 1978 chairman of the CDU district association Saarbrücken-Land, which appointed him honorary chairman after his resignation.

Gerd Meyer was elected to the Saarland state parliament for the first time in 1975. He then belonged to the state parliament without interruption for five legislative periods until 1999. Since 1977 he has been chairman of the state parliament's committee for culture, education and sport. He was a member of the parliamentary committee and later deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group and finally vice-president of the Saarland parliament.

Other offices

From 1999 to 2009 Gerd Meyer was managing director of Saarland-Sporttoto GmbH (Saartoto) and Saarland-Spielbanken GmbH.

Meyer was President of the Saarland Wrestling Association for 14 years, from 1991 to 2005, of which he was a member of the board of directors for a total of 27 years. Furthermore, he was from 2002 to 2014 President of the Saarland State Athletic Federation (CBFP). He was appointed honorary president of the LSVS.

LSVS scandal

In November 2018 it became known that the Saarbrücken public prosecutor's office was also investigating Meyer as part of the so-called LSVS scandal. Meyer is said to have launched the Liebesroman-Tage in Sulzbach in 2015 and supported it with around 4,000 euros from the LSVS. In April 2019, the Saarländischer Rundfunk reported that Meyer had to pay 10,000 euros to settle this procedure. Meyer had to pay a further 40,000 euros as a monetary deposit to settle suspicions of budget infidelity as part of the criminal investigation of the financial scandal at the state sports association.

Social and cultural engagement

Gerd Meyer is co-initiator and promoter of the unemployed self-help Püttlingen, which was founded in 1983. In particular, he helped establish the facility as a training facility.

Together with the artist Georg Fox, he founded the Köllertal artists' initiative in 1985 .

Personal

Gerd Meyer is married and has two sons and a daughter. He has been the holder of the Saarland Order of Merit since 2014.
