Marcelo da Veiga

Marcelo da Veiga (* 1960 in Blumenau , Brazil ) is the founding rector of the Alanus University for Art and Society and Professor of Philosophy and Society.

Life

Marcelo da Veiga Greuel grew up in Germany and, after graduating from high school, studied philosophy, German literature and education in Bonn , Bochum and Duisburg from 1981 to 1985 . From 1986 to 1989 he received a doctoral scholarship from the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia and obtained his doctorate in 1990 on the subject of "Reality and Freedom: The Significance of Johann Gottlieb Fichte for the Philosophical Thought of Rudolf Steiner". He then worked as a high school literature teacher in São Paulo . From 1993 to 1999 he was Professor of German Language and Literature at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Florianópolis , Brazil. At the same time he advised private universities and independent schools.

In 1999 he returned to Germany to work as an organizational and economic consultant for educational institutions and above all as a project manager for the Software AG Foundation for schools and universities. In 2002 he was assigned the project management for the recognition procedure at the Alanus University. After the university was recognized as an art school by the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Science in October 2002, he was appointed professor for philosophical and aesthetic education and elected the university's first rector.

Marcelo da Veiga was confirmed as rector of the Alanus University of Art and Society for a further four years in 2014, but is resigning on March 31, 2017. Marcelo da Veiga is a member of the board of the Association of Private Universities and director of the Institute for Education and Social Innovation (IBUGI) in Bonn.
