The castle Püttlingen is a lost moated castle and the rest of a prison tower (witch tower) in today's city park of Püttlingen in the Saarbrücken regional association in Saarland . The witch's tower as the last visible relic of the castle complex is sometimes mistakenly equated with the castle in common parlance.
history
The moated castle was built from 1341 to 1354 (each mentioned in a document) under Johann von Forbach and, after its completion, made available to the Trier Elector and Archbishop Balduin of Luxembourg in his disputes with Jakob von Montclair.
In the 14th century, the rule of Püttlingen with the castle was owned by the Lords of Kriechingen and was destroyed by Swedish-French troops in 1635 in the course of the Thirty Years' War . The remains of the castle served as a quarry to rebuild the place destroyed by fire.

The approximately 20 by 20 meter square castle complex consisted of a main and an outer castle . After the excavation of the partly built-up castle foundations in 2002, the still-preserved “ Witches Tower ” is not the former south tower, but was built as a prison tower (at the latest) in the 16th century. There is historical evidence that 14 women were held captive here by the Püttling bailiff Thomas Königsdorfer, accused of witchcraft and executed at the stake in the late 16th century.
At the point below which the foundation walls of the main castle from the 14th century were found during the excavations in 2002, a place and a notice board mark the location of the castle today.
