Frank Bayard (born October 11, 1971 in Püttlingen , Saarland ) is a German Roman Catholic clergyman and Abbot General and 66th Grand Master of the Teutonic Order .

Life

After completing an apprenticeship as a banker at Deutsche Bank, Frank Bayard studied business administration and European economics at the Lahr University of Applied Sciences (WHL) with a degree in business administration (FH) .

Bayard entered the Teutonic Order in 2000, made perpetual profession on September 19, 2004 and studied philosophy , Catholic theology , history and health management in Innsbruck and Vienna from 2001 to 2008 . On July 22nd, 2006 he received the sacrament of ordination in the collegiate church Weyarn from the Archbishop of Munich and Freising , Friedrich Cardinal Wetter . Since 2015 he has been a substitute for the Gumpoldskirchen parish in the Archdiocese of Vienna .

In 2006 he was elected to the General Council of the Teutonic Order as General Councilor of the German Brethren Province. From 2008 to 2018 he was the Order's general economist. On August 22, 2018, Frank Bayard was elected Abbot General and Grand Master of the Order for six years at the General Chapter of the Teutonic Order in Vienna as successor to Bruno Platter and immediately installed in his office. The abbot's benediction was given to him by the Archbishop of Vienna, Cardinal Christoph Schönborn , on November 17th of the same year in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna .

Above the shield stands the miter , accompanied by the left-hand pedum with a white velum (symbol of the Benedictine abbot ) and the overturned gladium on the right-hand side (symbolism of the imperial prince of the grand master until 1806 ). Above it hovers the black prelate hat with two six white tassels on white strings (sign of a superior general, with the white color of the Teutonic Order).

The motto below the sign reads: " Noli timere - meus es tu " (Do not be afraid, you are mine, Isa 43 : 1).
