In 1566 at the Reichstag in Augsburg, where the Elector of Saxony also received his enfeoffment, Georg Hund von Wendheim was enfeoffed with Prussia by Emperor Maximilian II (HRR) as Grand Master and Administrator. As an advocate of the Counter Reformation, he ensured a strengthening of the discipline in the spirit of the Council of Trent and a removal of Reformation sympathizers. He spent a lot of time expanding Mergentheim Castle, which became the dignified seat of the Grand Masters. Georg died in Mergentheim and was buried in the Teutonic Order Church there.
