Extended secondary school

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Extended Realschule ( ERS ) was a type of school in Saarland . The ERS was a pure secondary school (secondary level I), it was created in the mid-90s from the merger of the secondary school and the secondary school . In addition, existing secondary schools were converted into extended secondary schools or renamed.

Both the secondary school leaving certificate and the secondary school leaving certificate could be acquired here.

The extended secondary school comprised grades 5 to 10 and gave students with the appropriate qualification the opportunity to enter the gymnasiale Oberstufe .

The extended secondary school was replaced by the community school that had started in the 2012/2013 school year and expired in the 2016/2017 school year. From the 2017/2018 school year this type of school will no longer exist.

System of the extended secondary school

The lessons at the extended secondary school took place in class. An “extended general education” should be conveyed, which should also be the basis of vocational training or a further school career.

After the 5th and 6th joint grade, graduation-related classes were formed from grade 7 onwards.

The subjects taught at the Extended Realschule included German , mathematics , 1st foreign language, geography , history , social studies , biology , chemistry , physics , work theory , religion ( ethics ), visual arts , music and sport . At most of the extended secondary schools it was possible to start with French or English as the first foreign language in grade 5 . From grade 6 onwards, the students were taught their respective first foreign language on two levels.

A decision as to whether the ERS should end with a middle school leaving certificate or a secondary school leaving certificate was made at the end of grade 6 based on the student's performance. From grade 7 onwards, lessons were given in “final classes”. The pupils were taught in a branch related to the secondary school leaving certificate and a branch related to the middle school leaving certificate.

In the main school branch from now on, the subject of work studies was taught as a compulsory subject in preparation for professional life.

In the secondary school branch (grades 7-10), learning priorities were set through compulsory elective subjects. From grade 7 upwards, elective courses included a second foreign language and work studies (technology / economics) and from class 9 upwards, for example, word processing / communication technology, IT, economics, nature and the environment, art, economics and social studies.

Comparable school types are also the secondary school in Saxony , the regular school in Thuringia , the regional school in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , the secondary school in Saxony-Anhalt and Bremen, and the secondary school in Brandenburg .

degrees

The following qualifications and authorizations can be obtained at the Extended Realschule:

  • Secondary school leaving certificate after grade 9
  • Secondary school leaving certificate with entitlement to transition to a commercial school , social care school or trade school (requirement is a corresponding grade profile)
  • Intermediate educational qualification after grade 10
  • Intermediate educational qualification after completing vocational training (if you leave the extended secondary school without an intermediate educational qualification and then complete vocational training, the intermediate educational qualification can be awarded under certain conditions.)
  • Intermediate educational qualification with entitlement to transition to upper secondary school (requirements include a good grade profile)

Since the current school year it has been possible to achieve the Abitur at an ERS in Neunkirchen and in Dillingen (Saar). This project is currently still in the trial phase.
