About this picture

Aventoft ( Danish : Aventoft, Frisian : Oowentoft) is a municipality on the German-Danish border in the district of North Friesland in Schleswig-Holstein . Part of the Gotteskoog and Rosenkranz are located in the municipality. State road 2 leads from Aventoft to Süderlügum to federal road 5 and state road 6 from the Danish border via Aventoft to Ost-Bordelum to federal road 5.

history

After being separated from the Wiedingharde by a storm surge in the Middle Ages, Aventoft was a fishing village on a Geest island on the Wiedau . When the Gotteskoog was dyed in 1566, it was connected to the mainland, but it was surrounded by vast expanses of water for centuries before effective drainage made it possible to use the surrounding land in the 20th century.

Aventoft Church

The hall church in the village was built in the 13th century. The neo-Romanesque tower was built in 1911.

politics

Community representation

In the local elections in 2018 , the Independent Voting Association (UWG) received 79.8 percent and seven seats in the municipal council. The SSW had 20.2 percent and two seats. The turnout rose slightly from 56.1 to 57.0 percent.

In the 2013 election , the UWG won 64.5 percent and six seats, the SSW 35.5 percent and three seats.

Mayoress

In 2018 Christine Harksen (UWG) was re-elected mayor. She has been in office since 1994.

coat of arms

Blazon : “Under a shortened shield head in blue, which is thirteen times longitudinally shingled, a golden fish over three golden cattails.” The red and white shield head is supposed to symbolize a turnpike . The cattails stand for the marshland and the fish for the Aventofter See, which has been fished intensively for a long time.

economy

Many retail businesses have settled in the former fishing village, most of whose customers come from Denmark .

Attractions

The list of cultural monuments in Aventoft includes the cultural monuments entered in the monuments list of Schleswig-Holstein.

Glider airfield

The northernmost glider airfield in Germany is located in Aventoft , in the hangar of which there is the oldest flying glider in Germany, a Göppingen Gö-3 "Minimoa".

Books without limits

Following the example of the English book village Hay-on-Wye , “Books without Borders”, the first cross-border book village, was built in Aventoft. In the meantime the books have moved on to Ladelund a little further east. The association "books without borders", which had taken over the organization of the book village, had to move due to lack of space. Most of the books collected in Aventoft are now in Ladelund.
