Struckum ( Danish Strukum , North Frisian Strükem ) is a municipality in the district of North Friesland in Schleswig-Holstein .

Geographical location

Struckum is located on both sides of the landscape transition from the greater Schleswigsche Geest to the North Frisian Marsh south of Bredstedt . The elongated settlement core forms a typical Geestrands settlement . To the west of the village, the Breklumer Koog stretches between the northern municipal boundary of Breklum and the Struckumer Koogschaussee to Deichshörn . Wallsbüller Saatkoog is located in front of it to the southwest up to the Arlau .

geology

The municipal area is part of two fundamentally differentiated landscape areas . The eastern municipal area extends to the southeastern old moraine foothills of the Stollberg, which slide down into the Hattstedtermarsch . To the west of this flat, undulating range of hills is the marshland area of the southern Breklumer Koog and the Wallsbüller Saatkoog . This area, which is characterized by a difficult receiving flood , requires a guided water flow through near-surface, dammed watercourses. The main receiving waters in the municipality are the so-called Rhinschlot along the dyke to Sophien-Magdalenen-Koog and Desmerciereskoog , as well as the Wehle between the Wallsbüller Saatkoog and the Hattstedter Neue Koog at the transition to the Arlau . This area was diked in the first half of the 16th century .

On the Geest strip , the many so-called kinks are an element that shapes the landscape today . They prevent further sediment shifting through wind transport ( soil erosion ) in the arable land. This area developed in the Pleistocene , when the glacier advances in the time of the Saale complex advanced up to this point and postponed Scandinavian sediments that were transported with them (see glacial series / terminal moraine).

history

In the course of 1934, the parish district of Breklum was dissolved. All of their village communities, village communities and farmers became independent communities, including Struckum on December 1, 1934.

• Of the eleven seats in the municipal council, the WGS I community of voters had five seats since the 2008 local elections, the AWG four seats and the SPD two seats.
• In the local elections on May 26, 2013, WGS I received 43.3 percent and thus five seats. The AWG got 30.7 percent and three seats. The SPD achieved 26.0 percent and also three seats. The turnout was 55.4 percent.
• In the local elections on May 18, 2018, the following distribution of seats was determined for the electoral period until 2023. The constituencies WGS I and AWG were each awarded four seats. Representatives of the SPD occupy the remaining three seats on the eleven-member body.

General

Restaurant Deichshörn

The economic structure in the small community is rural. The majority of the companies are organized as small and medium-sized companies. Two businesses are of paramount importance. This is an engineering office for the planning and management of regenerative energy systems and a specialist and retail company in the field of agriculture and horticulture. The latter is operated by the Danish Dansk Landbrugs Grovvareselskab .

There are also various craft and service businesses, such as a local bakery with a café, a hairdresser and a small pet shop.

The North Friesland district association of the DRK operates a nursing home on site .

In addition to agriculture, tourism is of paramount importance. A country inn is located in the central settlement area. In addition, a small café in the Breklumer Koog offers a further gastronomic service.

The operation of plants in accordance with the Renewable Energy Sources Act in Breklumer Koog, which have been implemented in the form of community wind farms , increases the economic opportunities within the community.

Struckum is directly connected to the regional trunk road network by the federal highway 5 running through the settlement core. It forms the main North Frisian traffic axis between the end of the federal highway 23 near Heide and the German-Danish border near Tondern .

Due to its location, the route of the march railway between Husum and Niebüll runs parallel to the east of the main road . However, the former train station is no longer an official stopping point, so that SPNV travelers usually arrive at Bredstedt train station . In long-distance rail transport, the closest station is the Husum train station . Between these two stations, the bus R120 operates within the transport composite Schleswig-Holstein in hourly intervals with three stops within the elongated settlement area.

In addition, since August 2019, all stops in the municipality have been connected to the Bredstedt train station transfer stop every two hours by dial-a-bus outside school bus times . From there, the R125 buses also run to the regional center in Flensburg .

With the Söbenbargen route, a touristic cycle route also leads through the municipality. The additional signage for the official cycle network of the North Friesland district serves as a guide. Using connecting routes, it is also possible to transition to other cycling adventure routes of North Friesland Tourism . Along the route in the municipality, information boards provide a brief insight into the stories of Deichshörn and the Fortuna mill .

Fortuna mill

The landmark of the municipality of Struckum is the historic Fortuna mill . It is under monument protection and is listed in the list of cultural monuments in Struckum .

Personalities

• Karl Steensen (born March 3, 1883 at the Blumenhof; † 1957), farmer and member of the state parliament (CDU).
• Hannes Wader (born June 23, 1942 in Bielefeld-Gadderbaum as Hans Eckard Wader), German singer-songwriter, lived from 1973 to 1998 in a windmill that he himself renovated. In this mill, several of his successful sound carriers were written, composed and recorded.
