history
The area around the world is one of the oldest settlement areas of the southern Eiderstedter Marsch . Rural settlers lived here as early as the 9th century. The living space was laid out on a sandy bank wall in the mouth of the former Süderhever , which was a tidal current that once separated Utholm from the rest of Eiderstedt. Parts of the settlement later grew into one large throws together.
Original names for today's place were: Weltum, vel Welt, Welte or Velt . A widespread archaeological-historical explanation means that Welt was derived from Wehle , especially since Welt earlier wrote itself Wehldt . With the Kornhof , the Tetenshof and the Haubarg Windschuur, there are still three of the old farmhouses typical of Eiderstedt that are called Haubarge .
In 1113 Garding built a wooden chapel . The now Protestant Church of St. Michael zu Welt was built in the 13th century. The nave, built in the Gothic brick association , is late Romanesque. In 1415 Dithmarscher destroyed the chapel, which was then rebuilt by the end of the 15th century. The wooden pulpit, created in the Eiderstedt type, dates from 1578. The altar, which is decorated with a painting by Govert van Achtern, is dated to around 1600; a similar example can also be found in the St. John's Church in the neighboring municipality of Poppenbüll .
In 1897 the farm owner Tetens gave the community a sum of 5,000 marks which financed the building of an organ by Wilhelm Sauer .
The tower was only added in 1908. In 1966 the church was closed for renovation work. Since then, the parish of Welt-Vollerwiek has been using the Vollerwieker Church of St. Martin for regular services. The renovation of the Welter church building was completed in 1977. Since then, the church has been looked after by the Eiderstedt parish and is open all day from May to September. Since 1996 it has been known as the summer church worldwide . A permanent exhibition on the Eiderstedt churches and their history can be seen in the interior, and lectures and special services are held from time to time.

The municipality is connected to the federal trunk road network by the Schleswig-Holstein state road 241 . This branches off the federal road 202 in the northern part of Garding in the section between Tönning and St. Peter-Ording and leads through the settlement core (the village ) to the south of the place L 305 (connection from St. Peter-Ording via Eider Barrage towards Heide) .
The closest train station is the Garding stop on the single- track Husum – Bad St. Peter-Ording line . At the train station there is the central transfer stop Garding Mitte / Bahnhof of the on-call bus area Mittleres Eiderstedt / Garding, which connects the surrounding communities in the public transport with an on- call bus . In addition, three school bus routes run through the community area. The bus routes are all served by the Autokraft company.
