Grothusenkoog ( Danish Grothusen Kog , Low German : Groothusenkoog ) is a municipality in the district of North Friesland in Schleswig-Holstein . Westhof and Marienhof are in the municipality.
Geography and traffic
Grothusenkoog is located about 13 km west of Tönning on the Eiderstedt peninsula . The federal highway 202 and the railway line from Tönning to St. Peter-Ording run north .
With 327 hectares and 21 inhabitants, Grothusenkoog is the smallest municipality in the Eiderstedt district and belongs to the parish of Welt / Vollerwiek.
history
In January 1693, land on the Eider was transferred to Lieutenant General Otto Johann Freiherr von Grothusen for loyal services to Duke Christian Albrecht of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf .
In order to be able to dike this land, Grothusen looked for several financially strong partners, including the dike count and stable man Ove Lorenz from Welt , who inherited the Koog named after Grothusen in 1697.

With fewer than 70 inhabitants, the municipality has no municipal council due to Section 54 of the Schleswig-Holstein municipal code , but a municipal assembly in which all residents who are entitled to vote can participate.
