Otto Johann von Grothusen (* 1627 ; † June 22, 1697 in Altona ) was a German soldier in the Swedish service, most recently as Lieutenant General and Commander of Altona .

Life

Otto Johann von Grothusen was a lieutenant general, in Swedish service since 1655, heir to Turow in Pomerania and Stürzenhof in Livonia . As governor of the city of Wismar (1683–1690), which was then part of Sweden , he was promoted to the Swedish baron status as Freiherr von Turow on December 24, 1687 and introduced in 1689 to the baron class of the Swedish knighthood (No. 80). The Grothusenkoog in Schleswig-Holstein is named after him. In January 1693, land in the southwest of the Eiderstedt peninsula was transferred to Lieutenant General Otto Johann Freiherr von Grothusen for loyal service to Duke Christian Albrecht von Holstein-Gottorf. In order to be able to dike this land, Grothusen looked for several financially strong partners, including the dike count and stallion Ove Lorenz from Welt , who inherited the Koog in 1697.

He was married to Margaretha von Behr from the Edwahlen family. Major general and diplomat Christian Albrecht von Grothusen was his son.
