Dikemaster
Deichgraf (also Deichvogt , dyke juror , dike judge , dyke captain ) is the name of the head of a cooperative organized dike Association , which for the entertainment and installation of dikes is responsible. The Deichgräf form is common on the Lower Rhine . Sometimes beach officers also took on the duties of a dikemaster.
Oberdeichgraf was the highest among the dichgraves of a province, who was in charge of the dyke system and was otherwise known as the Oberdeichinspektor; in Lower Germany: Oberdeichgräfe, Oberdeichgrefe.
In the Netherlands there is still the dijkgraaf as the head of a waterschap , a unit of subnational self-government.
In literary terms, the Deichgraf was immortalized in the person of Hauke Haien in Theodor Storm's novella Der Schimmelreiter .
In addition, Deichgraf is the name of the IC trains 2314 and 2315, which run between Cologne and Westerland as well as Westerland and Stuttgart in the summer season .
