Wrixum ( North Frisian : Wraksem , Danish : Vriksum ) is a municipality in the district of North Friesland in Schleswig-Holstein .

Geography and traffic

Wrixum is located on the North Frisian island of Föhr on the border with Wyk and its district Boldixum . The place has a bus connection as well as several bike rentals.

history

Wrixum originated in the 15th century as a long village in the march.

politics

Community representation

Since the local elections in 2018 , the Wrixum Voting Association (WWG) has occupied all nine seats in the municipal council.

Mayor Heidi Braun was re-elected in June 2013.

The tourism is the main industry Wrixums. There are many small businesses in the community.

Attractions

The landmark of the community is the Wrixumer mill . It is an octagonal Dutch windmill built in 1851 , which was in use until 1960. In 1971 the then owner, W. Amerongen, restored the already dilapidated mill.
In the old village center there are numerous historic Uthland Frisian houses.
