Boldixum (Frisian: Bualigsem, Danish Boldiksum ) is a district of the town of Wyk auf Föhr on the North Sea island of Föhr .

geography

Map Föhr 1823:
Boldixum is still separate from Wrixum and Wyk

Boldixum is located northwest of the core town Wyk and immediately southeast of Wrixum on the edge of the marshland . Today it has grown together structurally with the core town of Wyk and even more with the settlement area of the neighboring municipality of Wrixum. On the map from 1823 the settlement areas are still clearly separated, although at that time Boldixum was already much closer to Wrixum than to Wyk.

history

In 1426 it was decided to siege the Siebenharden in the Church of St. Nicolai . The place was first mentioned in 1463 as Boldichsum . The origin of Boldix is unknown - possibly a name - um stands for "home". Almost all Föhrer villages have the suffix - um . At times Boldixum was the main town of Föhr. In 1924 the municipality of Boldixum was detached from the Osterlandföhr office and incorporated into the town of Wyk.

The parish had an area of 698 hectares . In the official list of places to live in the 1987 census, Boldixum was no longer listed as a separate place to live, but only the place of the same name within the town of Wyk auf Föhr.

Economy and Transport

Main industries are tourism, trade and agriculture. The state road 214, the "Rundföhrstraße", branches off here to the west to a ring road.

Attractions

One of the buildings is the Protestant St. Nicolai Church , which was built in the 13th century and, like numerous tombs in the cemetery, is a listed building. The Boldixumer Vogelkoje dates from 1879 and is the only one of the five Föhrer Vogelkoje that is open to the public.
