Location of the municipality of Arlewatt in the district of North Friesland | ||
Arlewatt ( Danish : Arlevad , North Frisian : Alwat ) is a municipality north of Husum in the district of North Friesland in Schleswig-Holstein . Arlewatt Hof ( Arlevadmark ), Arlewatt-Heide ( Arlevadhede od. Hedehusene ) and Arlewatt-Feld ( Arlevadmark ) are located in the municipality.
geography
Geographical location
The municipality of Arlewatt extends on the southern bank of the Arlau on both sides of the transition from the Schleswig Geest to the North Frisian Marsh . The community was part of the historical administrative district of Südergoesharde . The entire length of the Arlau rivers forms the northern municipal boundary.
Presumably the name of the municipality originated from the fact that in historical times the bank area of the Arlau could be waded through due to its shallow water near the Geest slope.

history
The place was documented in writing in 1466 and means about ford of the Arlau to Danish. vad and ndt. watt .
The old Arlewatt Castle was probably built in the second half of the 16th century. In 1627, Duchess Augusta bought the estate and converted it. The name "Rode Huus" and probably also the popular name "Grieshus" comes from this time. The castle served as a model for the novella Chronik von Grieshus , written by Theodor Storm in 1884 . Today only the Haubarg, built in 1735, remains. It is the second northernmost Haubarg in the North Friesland district. The lock was probably removed when the barn was built. The "Arlewatthof" estate was parceled out in 1772.
Until the German-Danish War in 1864, the place was part of the Südergoesharde within the Duchy of Schleswig , which belonged to Denmark as a fief .
On April 1, 1934, the parish land parishes were dissolved, and the two rural parishes of Arlewatt and Olderup were formed from the villages of Olderup .
