Geographical location

The municipality of Bohmstedt extends on both sides at the transition from the Schleswig Geest to the Hattstedtermarsch. The latter is a sub-area of the North Frisian March large landscape area . The municipal boundaries are determined in the south-western area by the rivers of Ostenau , Arlau and Ahrenshöfter Graben . Historically, this area belonged to the administrative district of the Nordergoesharde .

Neighboring communities of Bohmstedt are:

Drelsdorf
Almdorf Neighboring communities Norstedt
Hattstedtermarsch Ahrenshöft

history

The place name was first documented in writing in the 15th century and means, for example, tree site to old frieze . bam . Although it is located on the western edge of the originally Danish-speaking area in the Goesharden , there is probably a Frisian place name here.

On April 1, 1934, the parish state municipality Drelsdorf was dissolved. All of their village communities, village communities and farmers became independent communities / rural communities, including Bohmstedt.

politics

Community representation

Of the eleven seats in the municipal council, the WGA community of voters had six since the 2008 local elections and the WGB community of voters five. In the local elections on May 26, 2013, the WGA received 49.3 percent and four seats. The WGB came to 50.7 percent and five seats. There were only nine mandates left. The turnout was 55.1 percent.

In the local elections on May 6, 2018, there were again nine seats to be filled in the municipal council. The result was the following distribution of seats: Voting community WGA five seats, Voting community WGB four seats.

mayor

Ralf Kille (WGA) was elected as the new mayor for the 2018–2023 election period. He replaced Peter Tücksen as his long-term predecessor.

coat of arms

Blazon : “Split by green and gold. In front a silver shaft protruding from the front edge of the shield and open to the cleavage line, behind a rooted green deciduous tree. "

The wavy line on the left represents the confluence of the Arlau and Ostenau, while the rooted green deciduous tree is supposed to represent the place name.

Economy and Infrastructure

Waldheim im Haaks

General economic structure

The municipality is predominantly characterized by agriculture and forestry, which is mainly due to extensive afforestation since the end of the 19th century. In addition, Bohmstedtfeld has had a wind farm with nine wind turbines and a biogas plant since 1996 , which began operation in 2007.

There is also a cooperatively operated farmer's forest, the Haaks , in the municipality . It is also used for local recreation and tourism purposes. In its center is the Waldheim, a regionally known excursion restaurant. The level of awareness also results from an open air music festival of the same name that was held here in the past for several years .

traffic

Bohmstedt is off the main traffic axes of the North Friesland district. The nearest supraregional traffic axis for motorized private transport , the federal highway 5 , runs just under three kilometers away through the Hattstedtermarsch. The best connection to the village is via a county road that branches off directly from it at the southern entrance to Struckum in the direction of Almdorf and Bohmstedt. In earlier times, federal highway 5 was part of the Green Coastal Road .

In public transport , Bohmstedt is connected to the train stations in Bredstedt and Husum by bus line 1031 of the Schleswig-Holstein local transport association (route Bredstedt - Drelsdorf - Husum) . At both stations there is a connection to the local rail transport on the Marschbahn ( line RE 6). The station in Husum is also served by individual intercity trains on lines  26.1, 27 and 30.

Facilities

The building of the branch office of the Drelsdorf elementary and secondary school, in which elementary school classes from the communities of Drelsdorf , Bohmstedt and Ahrenshöft were taught, has not been used since 2007.
