history
The municipality has been populated since the Stone Age. The place Ellhöft was first mentioned in writing in 1543. The place name is made up of Danish. El (le) for alder and -hoved (in German -höft ) for a head start together. Böglum was first mentioned in 1497 and can be in old Danish. boghi (curvature) or bōk (beech).
In 1935 Böglum was incorporated.
politics
In the course of the municipal elections in Schleswig-Holstein in 2018 on May 6, 2018, a new local council was also elected for Ellhöft. With a turnout of 64.8 percent, all seven places were repeatedly filled by candidates from the WGE electoral community .
In the election on May 26, 2013, the WGE won all seven seats of the municipal council. The turnout was 73.8 percent.
Economy and Infrastructure
Historically, the community has been shaped to a large extent by the primary economic sector ( primary production ). Due to the economic policy at the turn of the millennium in Germany in the course of the energy transition , there was subsequently a sector shift in the direction of energy generation in the field of renewable energies (especially wind energy). In 1995, a wind farm project company was founded in the municipality and the Ellhöft community wind farm was inaugurated in 2000 .
The traffic connection of the municipality is mainly done by motorized individual traffic via the federal highway 5 north of Süderlügum. This leads for about one kilometer through the western municipal area and at the border crossing Böglum on the border between Denmark and Germany directly into the Danish Primærrute 11 and further towards the Danish town of Tønder .
The main settlement center of Ellhöft, which gives its name, is to the east of the main road. North of the village center of Süderlügum, the state road 192 crosses the federal road and, as an explicitly titled border road, runs in an easterly direction past the eponymous main settlement and continues into the Harrislee area .
