history

Numerous barrows in the municipality show a settlement in prehistoric times.

The place was first mentioned in 1381. Rantrum is certainly older, but since the Mildstedter church burned down in the 14th century, there are no earlier documentary mentions. Its name is derived from the personal name Rante , which in turn is derived from the sea goddess Rán .

From 1460, extensive areas were diked, so that the arm of the Nordereider was completely on land by 1579. This created the conditions for the livestock industry, which had its heyday in the second half of the 16th century.

In 1602 a school was founded in Rantrum.

The railway line from Husum to Rendsburg ran through Rantrum since 1910, and has since been shut down and dismantled.

On April 1, 1934, the parish land community Mildstedt was dissolved. All of their village communities, village communities and farmers became independent communities / rural communities, including Rantrum.

In 2002 the municipality of Rantrum was given the title of resort.
