history

Langenhorn was first mentioned in a document in 1352. Its centrality was particularly underlined by the granting of market rights . Since 1681 Langenhorn has been allowed to hold a cattle, horse or junk market three times a year.

Until the German-Danish War in 1864, the place formed a parish ( sogn ) within the Nordergoesharde and as such was part of the Duchy of Schleswig, which belonged to Denmark . After the annexation of Schleswig-Holstein by Prussia, a parish land municipality was formed from the area of the parish Langenhorn . It comprised the four villages of Loheide (Danish Lohede ), Mönkebüll ( Munkebøl , partly also Mønkebøl ), Oster-Langenhorn ( Øster Langhorn ) and Wester-Langenhorn ( Vester Langhorn ) as well as the settlement of Efkebüll (Danish Efkebøl , North French Äfkebel ) . Efkebüll was first mentioned in 1306 as Wfkæbøl and means settlement of Öveke .

On December 1, 1934, the parish Langenhorn was transferred to the Langenhorn community.

In 2009 there was the largest political conflict in the recent history of the village. The citizens' initiative "Livable Langenhorn" was founded with the aim of preventing the installation of eight wind turbines as part of a community wind farm directly in front of West-Langenhorn. This initiative was unsuccessful. On September 16, 2012 the inauguration of the Friedrich-Paulsen monument took place with a memorial event in the neighboring Langenhorn St. Laurentius Church. In this context, the market square in the West-Langenhorn district was renamed Friedrich-Paulsen-Platz.

  • In the local elections on May 26, 2013, the AWG received 49.4 percent and thus nine seats. The CDU came to 29.9 percent and received five seats. The SPD had 20.7 percent and four seats. An overhang mandate meant that 18 mandates were available. The turnout was 51.3 percent.

coat of arms

Blazon : "Split of gold and blue, covered with two grindlos interconnected horns, of which the front in red, the rear is tinged golden."

The municipal coat of arms is the only figure showing two horns pointing upwards, merging at the bottom and thus figuratively forming a unity. In this way, the coat of arms refers to the name of the municipality, more precisely: to its second component, the horn. Through the connection of the elements of the coat of arms figure (horns) and the resulting elongation of the same, the viewer of the coat of arms also has the impression of a long horn, so that the first part of the place name is also represented. Due to the exclusive connection to the place name, the Langenhorn coat of arms primarily identifies itself as a "speaking" or "speaking" coat of arms. Perhaps this relates to the shape of the oldest dyke line, destroyed in the 13th century, more likely to the elongated shape of the place on the Geestrand, to which the residents of Langenhorn had to retreat after the abandonment of the old Kooges. The tinging of the coat of arms in the colors red, blue and gold (so-called Friesian colors ) makes it clear that the municipality bearing the coat of arms is located in the North Friesland landscape.

economy

New shops from the service sector in Langenhorn

A large number of service companies are located in the community. In addition, a comparatively large number of craft businesses make their contribution to the economic development of the village.

A manufacturer of windows and doors is located in the Mönkebüll district. There is also a project planning office for renewable energies in the community.

To this day, agriculture also plays an important livelihood. A large part of the land is used for arable farming. The company ATR Landhandel is represented in town with a goods receiving department.

Renewable energy generation has joined this area in recent years. In recent years, wind farm and bioenergy projects have been implemented in the outdoor area in Langenhorner Alter Koog . A citizens' initiative had been formed in the village against the community wind farm that has now been created in the border area to the neighboring municipality of Ockholm . The biogas plant is located on the northern arterial road in the direction of the district of Efkebüll .

Langenhorn fulfills all the requirements for the general interest of the population close to their home . For this purpose, there are two hypermarkets run by Aldi Nord and EDEKA in the Mönkebüll district . Banking services are provided in Langenhorn by Nord-Ostsee Sparkasse and VR Bank Nord in their own bank branches.

church

St. Laurentius zu Langenhorn on the village square in West-Langenhorn

The St. Laurentius Church was built around 1240. In 1684 the renovation of the interior began. The altar, baptismal font and pulpit date from the following years. In 1721/22 the gothic core was extended by a square extension in the south, the eastern part was extended in 1759 and faced again in 1838. On this occasion the church received a new, mechanical pulpit clock . In 1761 Seneca Inggersen, who was born as Sönke Ingwersen in Langenhorn and made fortunes in East India, donated an organ to the church that was built by Johann Daniel Busch . The coffered ceiling, wooden panels and the stalls complete the church since 1898.
