About this picture

Sönnebüll ( Danish : Sønnesbøl , also Sønnebøl , North Frisian : Säänebel ) is a municipality in the district of North Friesland in Schleswig-Holstein.

Geographical location

The municipality of Sönnebüll extends on both sides of the transition from Hoher Geest to the east-northeast located sand area on the Schleswig Geest southeast of the Stollberg in the middle of North Friesland . The highest point of the municipality is located on a terminal moraine that characterizes the entire place and was postponed during the Saale Ice Age in the Friedensburg district . The village center of Sönnebüll has developed on its northern foothills .

Broad-leaved orchid occurs in the municipality . This is on the red list of endangered animals, plants and fungi in Germany .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1462 and means settlement of the Sönne . Sönne is a nickname that corresponds to the Gotlandic Sunja . The ending -büll corresponds to the Danish -bøl and the North Frisian -bel and means settlement. In the Nordic region there are a number of other similar place names (see Sønderlev near Hørring / Denmark or Sunneryd near Linköping / Sweden). Historically, the place belongs to the parish of Breklum within the Nordergoesharde . After the German-Danish War in 1864, the place came from Denmark to Prussia.

The Bredstedter Clay, a marine mica sediment that was mined for the brickworks in Sönnebüll, was created over five million years ago.

On April 1, 1934, the parish of Breklum was dissolved. All of their village communities, village communities and farmers became independent communities / rural communities, including Sönnebüll.

coat of arms

Description of the coat of arms : “Divided by blue and green by a narrow, three-arched golden bar, of which the right arch slightly raised and the middle arch slightly raised and the left arch slightly lowered, the arches in a ratio of 1: 2: 2. Upper right three to the left inclined golden trees, top left a golden sun over a golden long house, below a three-row golden brick wall. "

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is predominantly agricultural, with the dairy industry being particularly important. There is also a community wind farm with seven wind turbines and private individual systems.

The traffic development of the municipality takes place supraregionally mainly in individual traffic . The main axis runs through the municipality on the Schleswig-Holstein state road 12 . This branches off from federal road 5 in the neighboring town of Bredstedt and leads in a north-easterly direction to Wanderup on federal road 200 .

To the east of the village, the North Frisian district road 46 branches off the state road . This historically significant route gained its importance as part of the West Jutian Ox Trail . Apart from being designated as a district road, this route leads through the eastern municipality area as a communal connecting route and connects several villages in the neighboring communities of Langenhorn , Bordelum , Vollstedt and Drelsdorf .

In the local area, the place is connected to the surrounding villages via a well-signposted cycle network. Parallel bike paths have been built along the aforementioned main roads.
