Wester-Ohrstedt ( Danish : Vester Ørsted ) is a municipality in the district of North Friesland in Schleswig-Holstein . Ohrstedt train station and Bremsburg / Westerholz ( Bremsborg / Vesterholt ) are in the municipality.

Geography and traffic

The community is about 10 kilometers east of Husum on the federal highway 201 from Husum to Schleswig and on the Husum – Kiel railway line . However, the Wester-Ohrstedt stop is no longer served.

history

Barrows from the Neolithic and Bronze Age show that the area was settled early. A total of more than 40 finds and 11 burial mounds are known.

In the period between 1200 and 1420, the Haneburg was located in the southwest of what is now the municipality. The complex was probably a so-called tower hill castle , of which nothing can be seen today. Only the names of a street and a courtyard still remind of them. The place itself was first mentioned in 1438 as Westerohrstede .

At the beginning of 1770 the coupling took place , in which the lands, which until then had been largely communal property, were assigned to the farmers by lot. A few were also willing to settle outside the village in the east or south, in Bremsburg, Westerholz and Arl.

In Wester-Ohrstedt, too, the age of modernity came with the opening of the Südschleswigschen Eisenbahn in 1854 and the construction of the station in what is now the Ohrstedt-Bahnhof district. However, there has been no stop here since 1984. The railway line was built by the English, which explains the British style of the now demolished station building, which seems idiosyncratic for the region.

In 1890, pension-based houses were built for the deputy workers of the Westerholz estate on Schwabstedter Damm. The street has been called "Rentenstrasse" since then. Curiously, the correct name of the street is not clear today. For the houses west of the street the correct name is Westerholz, for the houses east of the street Bremsburg.

Until the German-Danish War in 1864 the place to parish Schwesing (belonged Svesing Sogn ) of Norder Goes Harde within to Denmark belonging to the Duchy of Schleswig . After the annexation of Schleswig and Holstein by Prussia , a parish land municipality was formed from the area of the parish of Schwesing . In addition to Wester-Ohrstedt, it included the five villages of Ahrenviöl , Hochviöl, Immenstedt , Schwesing and Oster-Ohrstedt .

On April 1, 1934, the parish district of Schwesing was dissolved. All of their village communities, village communities and farmers became independent communities, including Wester Ohrstedt.

In 1956, the former Ohlingslust farm was expanded into an air force material depot . This depot still exists today and employs around 200 people.

The schools in Bremsburg and Wester-Ohrstedt were closed in 1964 when the municipalities of Ahrenviöl , Oster-Ohrstedt and Wester-Ohrstedt established a village community school, today's GHS Ohrstedt, which is easily accessible from all three municipalities.

In 1968 land consolidation was carried out. In the western part of the village, price-controlled residential houses (terraced houses and apartment buildings) were built for members of the Bundeswehr in the so-called “Eiderbau-Siedlung”, the later Westerende. From 1974 the building areas Osterende, Süderacker, An de Lehmkuhl, Achter de Wall and Nordahlweg were designated one after the other. In addition, a community hall, which is also used for festivities, was built, and there has been a full sewer system in the town since 1997.

In 2011 Wester-Ohrstedt was one of the first municipalities in Germany to completely convert their street lighting to energy-saving LEDs in an environmentally conscious manner.

The renovation of the village center has also been planned since 2011. A market meeting point will be set up as the central building. In the MarktTreff there is then a food retailer, a bakery, a branch of the Volksbank Husum and a meeting area with an outdoor terrace. The new and unique thing is the cooperation with the community of Schwesing, which is also setting up a market meeting point, but where the focus is on the social component in the meeting area and the food retailing is a branch of the Wester-Ohrstedt operator. The MarktTreff in Wester-Ohrstedt has been open since December 16, 2013. In addition to a merchant, a baker and the Volksbank Husum, there is also the municipal meeting room for lectures and meetings of individual interest groups. The citizen bus runs between the cooperating partner communities Schwesing and Wester-Ohrstedt to the respective events.

politics

After the 2013 election, the municipal council has eleven members:

  • Group A: 4 seats
  • Group B: 7 seats

economy

Almost every craft trade is represented by a company. In addition, a supermarket and a bakery branch are available for daily needs.

schools

The community of Wester-Ohrstedt has a Protestant kindergarten in which an average of 45 children are looked after. From August 2013 there will be a crèche in the kindergarten where children under three years of age are looked after. Children and young people from this community attend the primary and secondary school in Ohrstedt, the first village community school in Schleswig-Holstein, which was built in 1964 between Wester-Ohrstedt, Oster-Ohrstedt and Ahrenviöl . Special and junior high school students as well as high school students attend schools in Husum .
