history
The chronicle of the village goes hand in hand with the construction of the dike in the region. Only when the Wiedingharde , to which Klanxbüll belongs, was diked and drained, houses could be built. Klanxbüll is first mentioned in 1231 with an entry in the land register of the Danish King Waldemar , since the former Duchy of Schleswig (with brief exceptions) belonged to the Danish crown until 1864.
From 1240 the construction of a church begins. The building, which is now a listed building, is the only thatched church on the North Frisian mainland. Its pulpit is said to come from the Strander parish of Volgsbüll, which was lost during the Second Large Mandrank in 1634 .
According to legend , the famous pirate Klaus Störtebeker is said to have had a hiding place at Bombüllhof , from which a secret passage allegedly led through the dike to the sea. In August 2010 the courtyard building was destroyed by fire. Only the terp on which the house stood has been preserved.
Around 1400 the Wiedingharde was separated from the rest of the mainland after a storm surge and was now on an island that was secured in 1436 by the dike called the Golden Ring . In 1566 new dams and dikes were built. A new Koog , the Gotteskoog , was created and connected Klanxbüll and the surrounding area with the mainland again. Since there was still no effective drainage and there were no paved paths, the Gotteskoogsee remained the main traffic route for years before it almost completely disappeared in the 20th century due to drainage. Around 1700 grievances and wars led to the Wiedingharde and thus also the village being almost abandoned, but the 18th century brought an upswing. Rich farms emerged, whose stately courtyards such. B. the Charlottenhof are still preserved today.
railway station
The village gained economic importance after the referendum in 1920 when it was connected to the march railway and received a train station. In 1927 the Hindenburgdamm was inaugurated, which connects the North Frisian mainland by train with the island of Sylt in the west . A new village center was built at the station.
Klanxbüll is still the last train station on the mainland before the trains reach the island of Sylt. Due to the high housing costs on Sylt, many people working on Sylt have settled in Klanxbüll. Despite the increase in population, Klanxbüll lost its school in 1967 with the establishment of the village community school in Emmelsbüll-Horsbüll .
Klanxbüll is an important Park & Ride station for people living in the surrounding area and working on Sylt . The station facilities were gradually renovated, especially in the 2000s, and an overpass over the tracks was inaugurated in 2006. Previously, rail travelers often had to wait a long time at the level crossing, as the barriers are often closed due to the heavy traffic on the route (including the passage of car trains).
politics
In the local elections on May 6, 2018, of the eleven seats in the municipal council, the constituency AWK received eight and the CDU three seats. The exact proportions of the votes were: AWK 72.8 percent and CDU 27.2 percent. The turnout this time was 46.4 percent.
Of the eleven seats in the municipal council, the constituency AWK had seven and the CDU had four seats since the 2008 local elections . The election on May 26, 2013 had the following result: AWK eight and CDU three seats. The turnout was 45.8 percent most recently.
tourism
In Klanxbüll there is the Wiedingharde information center, which shows an exhibition about the region's past and present and offers activities such as guided bike tours, and the Charlottenhof, a thatched four-sided courtyard , in which markets and concerts are offered. The church, which is located at the end of the village in the direction of Friedrich-Wilhelm-Lübke-Koog, is also significant for tourism .
