Rudolf Jaggi

Rudolf Ulrich Jaggi (born September 21, 1940 in Bern ; † September 3, 2015 in Basel ) was a Swiss composer .

Life

After completing the teachers' seminar, Jaggi began studying music at the Bern Conservatory and the University of Bern . He earned degrees in school music , conducting and as a theory teacher. He continued his composition studies with Robert Suter at the Music Academy of the City of Basel .

From 1968 Jaggi lived in Basel as a composer and choir director (1959 to 2001). From 1972 to 2001 he was a lecturer in music education at the cantonal teachers' seminar (today the university of education). He composed piano and organ pieces, chamber music, orchestral works, oratorios, theatrical music and choral works. Rudolf Jaggi has received numerous composition prizes. Among other things, he was Honorary President of the Northwestern Switzerland Choral Conductors Association (NWChV).

Jaggi also studied Egyptology (at the Egyptological seminar at the University of Basel ) and jazz (pianist, arranger and composer of the PAL JAM-Septet).

Jaggi lived in Basel and Provence. He died in September 2015 after a brief serious illness. His son, the cellist Martin Jaggi , is also a composer.
