The Hartford Financial Services Group (abbreviation on NYSE: HIG), a Fortune 100 company, is one of the largest investment and insurance companies in the United States with sales of 18.8 billion euros (25.9 billion US dollars ) in 2007. The Hartford offers a range of financial products , including life insurance, company pension, automobile and home insurance, and commercial property and casualty insurance. Worldwide the company has branches in Japan , Great Britain , Canada , Brazil and Ireland .

In the 2008 fiscal year, sales decreased from $ 25,916 million in 2007 to $ 9,219 million in 2008. The 2007 profit of $ 2,949 million has decreased to a 2008 loss of $ 2,749 million.
