The Auto Power GmbH is a bus - transportation companies in Schleswig-Holstein . It is a subsidiary of DB Regio and belongs to the DB Regio business unit within the DB Group . Autokraft operates regional bus services in Schleswig-Holstein as well as local city bus services in some cities (e.g. HusumBus in the North Frisian district town ).

history

Shortly after the end of the Second World War , Autokraft was (re) founded as a private company in Kiel on July 15, 1945 by Kurt Löwenthal, who had fled from Danzig . With two vehicles and the approval of the British occupying forces, he operated the Kiel- Schilksee line . As early as 1945 five more used buses were organized and refurbished in the company's own workshop. It came own overland lines to East Holstein to Fehmarn ferry addition, in 1946 the fleet of counted Autokraft GmbH ten buses and a bus trailer , there were employed 30 people. At the end of the 1940s, the first new vehicles (mainly Büssing ) could be procured. There were excursions to the seaside resorts on the Bay of Lübeck and to Bad Harzburg , on which a bus with a steward was used to serve drinks. Europe tours were organized for Americans.

In 1948 Autokraft GmbH took a 30% stake in Verkehrs-Union GmbH , which was also founded by a refugee in Kiel and operated regular services to Flintbek and Schierensee as well as a long-distance line to the “four-power” city of Berlin . Since the concessions for bus routes in Schleswig-Holstein were given preference to private companies, the German Federal Railroad , which was only founded in 1949, only had a few of them. She tried to remedy this deficiency by buying from these private companies. In 1951, for example, it took over Autokraft GmbH , Verkehrs-Union GmbH and Segeberger Verkehrsbetriebe GmbH (SVB), which was also founded by a refugee after the war , and which were continued as subsidiaries under private law. Autokraft took over the entrepreneurial management. The paintwork of the buses at the participating companies changed to a cream-colored base tone with two shades of green, the previous bright red with beige disappeared.

In 1952 Autokraft took over the remaining 70% of the Verkehrs-Union in Kiel. A new, larger depot was moved into on Von-der-Tann-Strasse, which also served as the company's headquarters until 1983.

  • The Rendsburger Omnibus Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH Auto Peifer (ROVG) was taken over by the German Federal Railroad and the German Federal Post Office (DBP) in 1957 . Six of the overland lines went to the DBP, the rest was operated by the DB under the leadership of Autokraft.
  • On January 1, 1960, the Langbehn company in Timmendorfer Strand with nine buses and 16 employees and u. a. one line to Lübeck . It was transferred to Verkehrs-Union GmbH , which was reactivated by Autokraft for this purpose. Due to the assertion of the naming rights of another company, the name was changed to Ostsee Omnibus GmbH (OOG). Rail bus services in the Lübeck area and the Guske company in Bad Oldesloe were also included in the OOG .
  • In 1963, the Kiel-Hamburger Autobus-Fernfahrt GmbH was acquired by the Federal Railroad, and the management of the company was also handed over to Autokraft.
  • In 1965 the subsidiaries Kiel-Hamburger Autobus-Fernfahrt GmbH , Ostsee Omnibus GmbH (OOG), Rendsburger Omnibus Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (ROVG) and Segeberger Verkehrsbetrieb GmbH (SVB) were integrated into Autokraft.

In 1970 Autokraft had around 300 employees, 110 buses were used on 64 lines. At the beginning of the 1970s, the reorganization of the school system with the dissolution of secondary schools in the small towns created a greater need for school transport.

In the mid-1970s, the federal government decided to transfer the bus routes of the Deutsche Bundespost and Deutsche Bundesbahn to regional transport companies under private law. For this purpose, a few model regions were initially selected in which the regionalization should be tested. As part of this pilot project, Autokraft took over the nationwide postal service of the Deutsche Bundespost in Schleswig-Holstein ( OPD Kiel) on January 1st, 1976 . By taking over the Bundespost staff, there were difficulties with the service law to cope with. As a result of the takeover, 94 Postbuses came to Autokraft, which were given car numbers from the 400 group and some of them were repainted in Autokraft colors. In 1978 Autokraft got a new parent company, the United Federal Transport Companies GmbH (VBG), 52.85% of which was held by the Deutsche Bundesbahn and 47.15% by the Deutsche Bundespost .

On April 1, 1982 Autokraft also took over the Postbus base in Hamburg-Bergedorf with its nine post buses and seven regional bus routes to the Duchy of Lauenburg . On November 1, 1982, the last four rail bus routes in Schleswig-Holstein, which had previously been operated by the Hamburg Hbf rail bus transport office, were finally handed over to Autokraft. This made Autokraft the largest bus company in the country. On September 10, 1983, a new depot was inaugurated in Kiel-Wellsee for the buses used in the Kiel area with a central workshop.

As part of the rail reform , DB ZugBus Schleswig-Holstein was founded on January 1, 1996 , a 100% subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG . It included the autokraft (bus) and the Schleswig-Holstein regional train (train). This form of organization has meanwhile been abandoned, with which Autokraft came to DB Regio AG . The company was a member of the Berlin Linien Bus network .

The touristic travel business was sold on April 1, 2001 to the Minicar company in Kiel, which continued to work with Autokraft.

In 2004 Autokraft took over the bus company Husumer Verkehrsbetriebe Grunert, which is responsible for local city bus transport in Husum .

Current line network

Autokraft mainly operates regular services in many districts of Schleswig-Holstein. In addition, it operates most of the regional bus routes between the medium-sized and regional centers of Schleswig-Holstein and partly to Denmark as well as various services in city traffic. Autokraft also operates the Kielius airport shuttle bus line and a line from Flensburg to Hamburg Airport . Another airport shuttle bus line to Lübeck- Blankensee Airport (Traveliner) was discontinued on February 28, 2013 after passenger air traffic ceased there. Autokraft was also active in the network of the Berlin Linien Bus until it was dissolved.

The majority of the operating performance is provided by our own vehicles. The operation is organized from several branches and locations. Part of the operating performance is provided by subcontractors with contract services for auto power.

On August 1, 2019, Husum's city bus service was redesigned under the HusumBus brand . The operation is still carried out by the local branch.

Line numbering scheme

With the first digit of the four-digit line number in regional or small town traffic, the line can be assigned to a circle. This scheme can also be applied to lines that are not served by car power (e.g. urban transport in small and medium-sized towns such as Elmshorn , Schleswig , Ratzeburg or Niebüll ).

1xxx: Line in the area of Schleswig-Flensburg and North Friesland
2xxx: line in the area of the Dithmarschen district
3xxx: Line in the area of the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district
4xxx: national lines (e.g. 4810 Kiel – Flensburg or 4610 Kiel – Itzehoe) and two lines in the Plön district
5xxx: Line in the area of the Ostholstein district
6xxx: Line in the area of the Steinburg and Pinneberg districts
7xxx: Line in the area of the Segeberg district
8xxx: Line in the area of the Stormarn and Duchy of Lauenburg districts

One to three-digit line numbers can be found primarily in local or urban traffic in independent cities or neighboring communities (e.g. lines 4 and 7 in local traffic in Flintbek ) and are sometimes served jointly with the local transport company (e.g. lines 501 / 502 Flintbek – Kiel – Strande with KVG Kiel ).
