The CCG Kieler public transport company ltd is a subsidiary of Eigenbetrieb interests of the state capital Kiel (SFBC) transport companies and operates the city traffic with city buses in Kiel and the surrounding area. As the responsible body for local public transport in Kiel, the SFBC has awarded the transport services for bus transport for the period from 2011 to 2020 directly to the KVG. The sole shareholder of the KVG is the state capital Kiel.
In 2013, KVG carried almost 33 million passengers and employed around 540 people.
history
The predecessor company Kieler Verkehrs AG (KVAG) was founded in the 1930s. This emerged from the Neue Dampfer Compagnie (NDC) founded in 1886 and the Hafenrundfahrt AG (Harufag) founded in 1906 , which carried out the traffic on the Kiel Fjord , and also took over some lines that were previously operated by the company H. C. Reimers ( Holsteinische Autobusgesellschaft ) which carried out the bus service in Kiel for a long time. KVAG took over the Kiel tram from ALOKA in 1942 .
In 1996 the KVAG shipping department was spun off, resulting in the Schlepp- und Fährgesellschaft Kiel mbH (SFK).
On December 29, 2001, the KVAG was renamed the KVG Kieler Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH .
Foundation of the VRK
After the Verkehrsverbund Region Kiel (VRK) was founded in May 1998 , the line network in the entire area of the VRK, especially in Kiel, was redesigned and the line numbers standardized. With the timetable change on May 24, 1998, the reorganized Kiel route network came into effect.

Timetable and lines
General
Since May 29, 2011 there are seven local bus routes (one of which was only served as a call-line taxi until the timetable change on April 29, 2016 ), 25 city bus routes and five night bus routes . There are also five city bus routes in Kiel that are operated jointly with Autokraft (AK). Until the timetable change on April 29, 2016, some local buses and the entire night bus network were operated by VINETA. In the meantime, the KVG has taken over the complete line traffic.
Most lines are operated every 10 to 60 minutes during rush hour (HVZ), with some lines being grouped into line bundles (same section), so that there are more frequent intervals in the city center and sometimes in the suburbs ( e.g. Elmschenhagen , Holtenauer Street , Kronsburg , Russee , Gaarden,).
In late-night traffic , the traffic is usually limited to main lines, with the Hauptbahnhof stop serving as a central (transfer) hub .
Since March 25, 2013, all lines have been “get in front!” Around the clock. Before that, this applied daily between 8 p.m. and the end of operation of the night bus routes.
The stops in the city center are gradually being equipped with a dynamic passenger information system (DFI).
Central station and bus station (ZOB)
The main station stop is divided into eleven bus platforms. The city buses of the Kieler Verkehrsgesellschaft as well as the regional buses of Autokraft and VKP stop there.
At the central bus station , there were seven bus platforms. The buses of the regional and long-distance lines of Autokraft (520, 620, 640, 830, 4310, 4330, 4610, 4630, 4810) and VKP (102, 200, 201, 210, 410) stopped here until January 19, 2015 . The ZOB has been closed since January 20, 2015 and is currently being rebuilt; replacement stops have been set up in the surrounding streets. The long-distance buses stop in a provisional interim central bus station, which is also near the main train station.

Depots
- Werftstrasse 233–243 (headquarters)
The depot was opened in 1896 when the first tram line ran on the east bank. At first, the electricity for the tram was generated there before it was connected to the municipal power grid. The depot was expanded and modernized over the years until it was completely converted into a bus depot in 1985 at the end of the tram. Further modernization and expansion is planned in the coming years up to 2020.
- Diedrichstrasse 4
KVG also parks some of its buses in the depot. The Vineta Busbetriebsgesellschaft used to use a part of the depot as a third-party tenant to park their buses, which at the time were used for contract traffic for the KVG. Vineta has now moved to the TÜV site (Segeberger Landstrasse) and has not operated any order traffic for the KVG since April 29, 2016.
Vehicle fleet
The KVG bus fleet consists of 187 buses (as of December 2019). Most of them are three-door articulated buses ( Mercedes-Benz Citaro and MAN Lion's City ) with around 43 seats and around 100 standing places, depending on the design. All normal and articulated buses that have been procured since 2010 have an external pivoting door with additional wheelchair space on the right-hand side of the vehicle and have video surveillance. In 2013, a new interior design was introduced for the buses: flooring with a laminate look, gray upholstery for the passenger seats and gold-colored handrails. At the same time, the number of ventilation flaps in the windows has been increased by two per bus. The highest number of new articulated buses was purchased in 2018 with 19. In 2013 ten new solo buses were put into operation. This meant an exchange of a third of all solo buses. In 2017, 11 hybrid low-floor articulated buses Euro 6 with the designation Volvo 7900 HA were purchased; a further 21 buses of this type followed in 2018 and 2019.
Emergency vehicle
During rush hour (mainly for schoolchildren and students) there are so-called emergency vehicles that provide additional connections on lines that are in high demand; the route often deviates from the normal route. On these trips, an E is often added to the route number (e.g. 11 E ).
During the Kiel Week there are additional emergency trips on the main traffic axes. All buses carry flags of the city of Kiel and the KVG on the roof during this period.
