The Schleswig-Holstein tariff (short form: SH tariff) is a tariff for the transport of people in public transport for the state of Schleswig-Holstein as well as Hamburg and parts of Lower Saxony , which are in the greater Hamburg area (ring A + B) of the Hamburg transport association (HVV).

scope of application

The SH tariff applies to trips in local and regional transport with buses and / or trains (partly also ships) within Schleswig-Holstein and the Hamburg Transport Association (Ring A + B) as well as to and from the Danish train station Tønder with the following exceptions:

  • The SH tariff does not apply to bus services on the islands of Föhr , Amrum and Pellworm .
  • The SH tariff does not apply to journeys where the start and destination are within the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV).
  • The Schleswig-Holstein tariff does not apply to a few lines at Neumünster or to airports.

The Schleswig-Holstein tariff does not apply to long-distance transport , for example for long-distance bus lines , for example to Berlin , or for long-distance passenger rail transport (SPFV) operated by Deutsche Bahn AG ( InterCity , EuroCity and ICE )

development

The tariff was initially introduced as a railway tariff on December 15, 2002 and replaced the national local transport tariff of Deutsche Bahn AG at that time. As part of an expansion on April 1, 2005, large parts of the bus service were also integrated into the tariff. The development stages of the Schleswig-Holstein tariff are:

  • December 15, 2002: Introduction to rail transport

  • December 15, 2005: Integration of the incoming and outgoing trips in the Sylt bus traffic.
  • August 1, 2008: Integration of bus traffic in the Dithmarschen district .

  • August 1, 2009: Integration of bus traffic in the Steinburg district
  • August 1, 2011: Integration of city bus traffic in the Hanseatic city of Lübeck

Reasons for the introduction

A nationwide tariff system is required in Section 3 (3) of the Law on Local Public Transport in Schleswig-Holstein (ÖPNVG) . The main reason for the introduction of the Schleswig-Holstein tariff, however, was the increasing liberalization of Schleswig-Holstein's regional rail transport since the rail reform in 1994. Over the years, Deutsche Bahn AG lost more and more transport services to competitors, but continued to determine the full extent of what was then applicable transport tariff ( DPT , PEP , BBDB ). The introduction of the SH tariff therefore primarily served to avoid distortions of competition between the various railway companies operating on the market . In addition, the networking between bus and train should be promoted and simplified, which was achieved with the extensive integration of bus traffic on April 1, 2005.

Ticket range and sales

The Schleswig-Holstein tariff tickets are available from ticket machines , from bus drivers and in person-operated sales in travel centers, ticket issuers and agencies. The fares between two stops are set individually; they cannot usually be determined using a zone plan. The basis for pricing is usually the distance. The price level prevailing before the introduction of the SH tariff was taken into account for the price gradations.

As part of the Schleswig-Holstein tariff, in addition to the various BahnCards , the SH-Card is also offered as a discount card for 27.50 euros per year. These customer cards generally allow a 25% discount on single tickets for the Schleswig-Holstein tariff. This also applies to the Bahncard 50. Therefore, for holders of the Bahncard 50, in some cases a trip on the IC or ICE (DB tariff with full 50% discount) is cheaper than a trip on the regional train at the SH tariff (only 25% discount) . Between Hamburg and Kiel, for example, the trip in the IC cost € 11.50 in October 2015, while the regional express according to the SH tariff was € 17.10, but with the additional option of using the HVV transport within the greater Hamburg area (Ring A + B ).

The Schleswig-Holstein-Ticket (state ticket for Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ) is not integrated into the Schleswig-Holstein tariff. However, due to cooperation agreements, it is recognized as a product of Deutsche Bahn AG in rail transport. This means that it is valid in all means of rail transport, including trains operated by private railway companies, provided that the Schleswig-Holstein tariff is used for these in addition to other offers. In general, the national ticket is no longer valid for bus transport; Exceptions are the HVV tariff zones within the greater Hamburg area (rings A and B).

In the Schleswig-Holstein tariff, daily network tickets are offered for individuals and small groups at prices in the middle double-digit range. In contrast to the Schleswig-Holstein ticket, these are only valid in this federal state, but on all bus and train lines of the Schleswig-Holstein tariff.
