Südfriedhof is a district of Kiel . A new residential area with a maritime touch is being built in Marthastraße near the Gablenzbrücke. 104 apartments, i.e. around a third of the existing stock, will then belong to the Kiel Housing Association (KiWog) as social housing .
District boundaries
The Südfriedhof district is the area bounded in the north by Hasseldieksdammer Weg, in the northeast by Kronshagener Weg, Hermann-Weigmann-Strasse, Ringstrasse, Sophienblatt, Raiffeisenstrasse and Hörnufer; in the east then through a straight line between the southeast corner of the Hörn, through Gablenzstrasse, Werftstrasse and Zum Brook; in the south along the railway line; also southwest of the Kiel-Süd district heating plant and the waste incineration plant and west of the Rewe Center and the vehicle registration office. The district also includes Dudweilerstraße and Mettlachstraße with all properties and part of Ottweilerstraße. From the corner of Arfrade / Mühlenweg the border goes northwards to the motorway, along the motorway to the railway line at Hasseldiek and northwards to the transition from Hofholzallee to Hasseldieksdammer Weg.
It is bordered by the Hasseldieksdamm district in the northwest, the Schreventeich district in the north, the Exerzierplatz and Gaarden-Ost districts in the east, Gaarden-Süd and Kronsburg in the south and the Hassee district in the south and west .
history
Kiel city field
In the centuries after Kiel was founded, most of what is now the Südfriedhof district belonged to the Kiel city field. It was used as pasture and arable land. At the end of the 18th century there was a subdivision into main and secondary types. From this time z. B. the names Prüner Schlag, Stadtfeldkamp, Hummelwiese, Moorteich, Papenkamp and Lehmbrook, which are still in use today.
Streets and paths in the 18th century
As early as 1789, on the "Topographical Military Charter of the Duchy of Holstein (1789–1796)" No. 21 by Major Gustav Adolf von Varendorf, the following streets and paths - still without names - were marked:
- Königsweg - is considered the oldest access road to Kiel. As early as 1426 as a section of the Jutland-Altona connection known as the “ Via Regia ” of the Danish kings.
- Hamburger Chaussee - from today's Rondeel, as a continuation of the Königsweg. Old Heerstraße from Kiel to Hamburg.
- Lübecker Chaussee - from today's Rondeel. Old military route from Kiel to Lübeck.
- Sophienblatt - connecting road between suburb and Rondeel. First mentioned in 1658 as "Salvienblade". Salvia - a type of hop used for brewing beer that was grown here. Sophienblatt developed from Salvienblatt, Sefienblatt.
- Winterbeker Weg - former country road between the suburb and the village of Winterbek.
- Hasseer Weg - the former connecting route between the suburb and Dorfstrasse in Hassee . Today: Kirchhofallee, Saarbrückenstraße, Hasseer Straße.
Known places
- The cemetery was inaugurated on April 30, 1869 under the name Neuer Kirchhof. In 1901 it was given its current name. The district is named after him.
- The park was laid out in 1903 and is one of the oldest historical parks in the state capital.
- The park on the Moorteichwiese was built from 1905 to 1908, from 1907 under the direction of the city horticultural director Ferdinand Hurtzig .
- Built between 1895 and 1911.
