Idris Abdul Wakil

Idris Abdul Wakil (born April 10, 1925 in the village of Makunduchi, Zanzibar , † March 15, 2000 in Zanzibar) was a Tanzanian politician .

biography

Abdul Wakil initially worked as a diplomat and was ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany between 1967 and 1969 . He was then ambassador to the Netherlands from 1970 to 1973 and to Guinea from 1974 to 1976 .

In 1980 he became Speaker of the House of Representatives of Zanzibar . After Ali Hassan Mwinyi was elected President of Tanzania , he succeeded him as President of Zanzibar on October 24, 1985. At the same time, he was second Vice President of Tanzania until the end of his term of office on October 25, 1990. His successor in these offices was Salmin Amour .
