Location of Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf in Kiel
|
Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf is a district of the state capital Kiel on the east bank of the Kiel Fjord and has about 12,000 inhabitants. The joint power station Kiel -Ost, the Kiel University of Applied Sciences and the Ostuferhafen (a freight and ferry port of the city) are located in the area of this district. The Oppendorf settlement also belongs to the district .
history
Before Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf was incorporated into Kiel in 1924, Dietrichsdorf was an agricultural place, while the residents of Neumühlen lived from the numerous mills along the Schwentine .
While only around 700 inhabitants were counted around 1871, this changed in 1876 with the settlement of the "Kiel Shipyard" by Georg Howaldt , the nucleus of the Howaldtswerke . The district of Neu-Dietrichsdorf was laid out for the shipyard workers directly in front of the shipyard gates, so that by 1900 the district already had almost 3,000 inhabitants.
Establishment of companies
In addition to HDW, other companies have settled in the district from time to time. In 1905 the company Anschütz was founded there , the founder of which invented the gyrocompass . The Kiel Pain Clinic is now located in the former company building.
In 1947, Rudolf Hell set up his company in the district, which produced communication and reproduction technology. Part of the college is housed in the buildings today.
The wheelchair manufacturer Ortopedia had its main plant in Dietrichsdorf before MEYRA Wilhelm Meyer GmbH & CO. KG took over the company and relocated production. The former buildings belong to the Ostuferhafen, which wants to tear them down.
Neighboring districts and traffic
Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf is located on the north-eastern outskirts of Kiel, so that only Wellingdorf borders in the south as a neighboring district, which is also separated by the Schwentine. Otherwise, Schönkirchen and Mönkeberg (both Schrevenborn Office ) border the district.
Two bridges lead over the Schwentine into the center of Kiel, next to it the B 502 (direction Schönberg) and a road to Mönkeberg (old B 502) graze the district.
As part of the StadtRegionalBahn Kiel project, a light rail line from Neumühlen to Eckernförde is planned.
