Toni Jensen

Toni Jensen , (with full name Thomasine Margarete Jensen ) (born September 25, 1891 in Tönning , † October 20, 1970 in Kiel ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Act

Toni Jensen was born in Tönning and spent her school days there. The family later moved to Kiel because their father had found work at the Germania shipyard in Kiel. In 1911 she passed her exams as a primary school teacher at the preparatory institute in Augustenburg on the island of Alsen . From 1915 she worked as a primary school teacher in Kiel. From 1919 to 1924 she was active as a city councilor in Kiel. From 1921 she was the first chairwoman of the Kiel workers' welfare organization . From 1921 to 1933 she was a member of the Prussian state parliament . In 1935, at the invitation of American colleagues, she went to the USA to get to know institutions for adult education. Then she accepted an invitation to England . In 1945 she came back to Kiel and dedicated herself to the reconstruction. She was appointed by the British military government to be a member of the Kiel Council, where she was responsible for schools. From 1947 to 1956 she took over the school and culture department. After her retirement, she was again represented on the Kiel Council from 1959 to 1965.

Honors

City councilor Toni Jensen received the plaque of honor from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1965.

A community school was named after her in the Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf district of Kiel .

  1. It is also called Ålborg as the place of birth, even Kiel. According to the archive of the residents' registration office of the state capital Kiel from 2013 (for the web version of Schultheiss, Toni Jensen ) this is wrong, Tönning is definitely correct.
