Location of Blücherplatz in Kiel
|
Blücherplatz is the name of a district in the north-west of the city of Kiel . The district covers 82.3 hectares and has 10,818 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2010).
District boundaries
The Kiel-Blücherplatz district has the following borderline: The border forms the Düvelsbeker Weg in the north, it then runs between the Sankt-Heinrich-Kirche (Blücherplatz district) and the forest tree school restaurant (Düsternbrook district) on a direct route through the forest forest tree school to the forest path. In the east the forest road forms the border, in the south the Waitzstrasse to Knooper Weg. In the west, Knooper Weg and Holtenauer Straße form the border.
Attractions
The area around Blücherplatz is almost entirely residential (only smaller shops and supermarkets, mostly on Holtenauer Straße, offer shopping opportunities). Therefore there are no real sights here. Only the neo-Gothic Ansgar Church , which was built until 1903 and is extremely richly decorated for Nordic standards, as well as the garrison church of St. Heinrich , designed by the architect Adalbert Kelm and the Kieler Schauspielhaus, are worth mentioning.
Development
The Blücherplatz district has a high density of old buildings compared to the rest of the city of Kiel. The reason can be seen in the fact that the Allied air raids of World War II concentrated on more distant parts of the city: in the south on the city center and the shipyards and in the north on the canals in Holtenau and the shipyard in Friedrichsort. The Blücherplatz as a purely residential area was militarily unimportant.
The typical development consists of four-story, more rarely three- or five-story old buildings (some are simple apartment buildings, some town houses with large living areas and high ceilings), and there are also some villas from the pre-war period. The Blücherplatz quarter is a typical quarter for the upper middle class, in which there are also many student shared apartments. Apart from the main streets, almost all streets are 30 km / h zones, often with cobblestones.
Naming
The Blücherplatz district got its name from a market square and parking lot in the center of the area of the district that was named Blücherplatz in 1902. The Blücherplatz and the adjacent Blücherstraße, which was also given this name in 1902, are named after Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher (1742-1819), Field Marshal General of the Wars of Freedom, 1813 victor in the Battle of Leipzig.
