Passenger shipping

Laboe passenger ship

Two ferry lines are operated:

These have a total length of 22.8 kilometers. For passenger transport are three passenger ships of Friedrichsort class (, Heikendorf , Laboe and Strande ) each every 300 Passagierpkätzen and Schilksee (246 passengers) and the Schwentine (200 passengers) are available. The SFK also offers harbor tours as well as excursions and charter trips. In addition, the Falckenstein and Kitzeberg tugs can be used for passenger traffic. You can carry up to 180 people.

The commissioning of a new ferry with a diesel hybrid drive is planned for 2020. The ship with electric traction motors and lithium-ion batteries will be built at Holland Shipyards , the construction costs are estimated at 3.9 million euros. The new ship with the intended name Gaarden is to be followed by three more in the next few years.

The SFK is a member of the Kiel Region Transport Association . It applies the Schleswig-Holstein tariff .

history

When KVAG was formed in 1938 from the Neue Dampfer Compagnie (NDC) and the Hafenrundfahrt AG (Harufag) founded in 1906, it took over the existing ships: including the city of Kiel and the sister ship Heikendorf , the slightly larger Laboe and the smaller Kitzeberg .

To replace the old ships after the Second World War , between 1953 and 1968 six almost identical passenger ships were obtained from the Kröger shipyard in Rendsburg, which were around 140 GRT and could hold 300 passengers: Schilksee , Falckenstein , Bellevue , Laboe , Möltenort and Mönkeberg .

In 1968 the smaller Gaarden with 99 GRT for 198 passengers was built by the Kröger shipyard in the same style, for the 1972 Olympic Games the slightly larger Friedrichsort with 170 GRT .

Between 1979 and 1990 these ships were sold to various shipping companies, most of which are still in service today. They were replaced between 1981 and 1984 by the existing three ships built at the Lindenau shipyard , and by Friedrichsort , which was sold again in 1992 (built in 1981).

For cost reasons, the timetable was tightened in the 1980s and a number of investors abandoned: Wik and Holtenau on the west side, Gaarden, Kitzeberg and Heikendorf on the east side of the fjord.

The new building in Gaarden

The passenger ships Laboe , Strande , Heikendorf and Schilksee are to be replaced by new buildings by 2022, as the ships, some of which are 35 years old, are technologically obsolete and the diesel-mechanical drive is no longer up to date. To this end, the towing and ferry company Kiel ordered a hybrid-electric powered ferry from the Hollands Shipyards in Hardinxveld-Giessendam near Rotterdam in November 2018 and agreed options for three other ferries of the type. The electricity is supplied by either two generators or batteries. The ship is to run from the train station to Bellevue in battery mode; the synthetic fuel GTL is to be used for the rest of the route to Laboe . The costs for the new building are given as around 3.9 million euros. The ferry was delivered in July 2020 and will be put into service as Gaarden .

The following ships Friedrichsort , Wik and Schilksee , for which options were initially agreed, are scheduled for delivery in 2022, 2024 and 2026. The second ship was laid down on April 1, 2020.

Towing

The Bülk is integrated into the German emergency towing concept on behalf of the state .
