history

From 1924 onwards, the Lübeck tram , which was owned by municipalities, also operated bus routes . From Kücknitz to Travemünde , from Lübeck to Nusse , to Ahrensbök and to Utecht . Due to the hindrance of the tram operation by the increasing motor vehicle traffic in the city center, starting from 1935 on converting tram lines to bus operation. That ended after the outbreak of the Second World War . Buses were handed over to the Wehrmacht, and trams were sometimes used again on lines that had already been converted. The Finkenstrasse depot served as the depot . The buses on the inner-city lines were operated with town gas from 1942. From 1955 the remaining tram lines were converted to buses. On November 15, 1959, the last tram ran.

The Roeckstraße depot, which was previously used for the tram, was replaced in 1998 by the new depot in Ratekauer Weg.

From 1992 to July 31, 2011 the tariff of the Lübeck collective bargaining community was in effect . The Lübeck tariff area was divided into several tariff zones. Since August 1, 2011, the Schleswig-Holstein tariff has also applied in Lübeck .

From the middle of 2013, the old shelters were replaced by new ones from Wall AG .

Vehicle fleet

The first buses for the Lübeck tram were supplied by Magirus and Büssing . 42 buses and 23 bus trailers were ordered from Büssing to convert the tram lines  . Four double-decker buses were ordered for the line to Travemünde, but they were not delivered until after the Second World War. From 1950, 24  Büssing trambuses were purchased. In 1955, buses from Daimler-Benz of the type O 321 H were purchased for the first time . This also involved the switch to one-man operation. After that, with a few exceptions, buses were only ordered from Daimler-Benz.

In 1958, 23 large-capacity buses of the type MB O 317 , and in 1959 another 37 were procured to replace tram operation . In 1961 the first articulated buses (Daimler-Benz / Gaubschat ), still with a conductor and passenger flow from back to front, were used. In the 1960s, due to strong cost increases (personnel costs) and a lack of personnel, one-man operation also prevailed for open-plan vehicles. In 1969 the first standard MB O 305 buses were introduced. In 1980 there were 132 O 305s, 12 articulated buses (Mercedes-Benz O 317 / Vetter ) and 25 articulated buses (Mercedes-Benz O 305 / Vetter) in stock.

In the fourth quarter of 2011, the vehicle fleet was expanded to include 5 hybrid buses of the HESS Swisshybrid type ( articulated buses with car numbers 495–499) and 5 solo buses of the MAN Lion’s City Hybrid type (car numbers 695–699). Since the second quarter of 2014, the fleet has been increased by two solo and seven second-generation Mercedes-Benz Citaros articulated buses , for which ten old buses (built in 1999) were taken out of service. New buses that have been purchased since mid-2013 have monitors and WiFi .

The buses of the Hanseatic city wore the color RAL 1015 , which is widely used in Germany until the 1990s . A Lübeck city eagle was emblazoned above each of the front headlights. The last new car with this paintwork was purchased in 1992. These disappeared from the cityscape in the 1990s, they were replaced by white buses with blue and red stripes. In mid-2013, a Citaro articulated bus with car number 345 in ultramarine blue was put into service by the THW , which advertised it for two years. There were and are several other city buses with full advertising . These also include five hybrid buses from Hess .
