Historical

Memorial stone to the former name of the village of Groß Parin

The name "Parin" is derived from a Wendish expression that is interpreted as "by the brook" or "at the swamp (located)".

The village goes back to a Wendish settlement. After the conquest of Wagrien in 1138/39 by the Holsten , there was a migration of the population, some of the resident Wends abandoned their settlements. They wandered a few kilometers further west and founded a new village, which was also named "Poryn". In order to distinguish the two settlements, the older settlement was referred to as "Dudeschen (German) Poryn", the newer settlement as "Wendish (Wendish) Poryn". After the population had been mixed up over the centuries, these names had lost their meaning and “Dudeschen” became “large” Parin and “Wendish” became “small” Parin .

  • Groß Parin was first mentioned in a document in 1326.
  • In 1337 the village was sold to the bishop of Lübeck and administered by the Hobbersdorf estate.
  • In 1586, Groß Parin passed into the possession of the Lübeck cathedral chapter in return for a contract.
  • In 1804, after the abolition of the Lübeck Cathedral Chapter, Groß Parin became part of the Principality of Lübeck (ruled by the (Grand) Dukes of Oldenburg , which made it an exclave of the Bouches de l'Elbe department in France from 1810 to 1814 ).
  • In 1934, Groß Parin was incorporated into Bad Schwartau .
  • On April 1, 1937 Bad Schwartau was with his district United Parin by the Hamburg Act big as county Eutin the province of Schleswig-Holstein in the country Prussia incorporated.
