Vevy is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Vevy is located at 509 m , about eight kilometers east of the city of Lons-le-Saunier (as the crow flies). The clustered village extends in the Jura , in the south of the Plateau Lédonia (first Jura plateau), between the erosion valley of the Creux de Revigny in the west and the heights of the Côte de l'Today in the east.
The area of the 9.62 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The entire area is taken up by the plain of the Plateau Lédonia, which lies at an average of 520 m and consists partly of arable land and meadow, partly of forest. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. To the south, the municipality extends into the wooded area of the Bois des Epaisses , to the northeast in the Bois des Chaumois . At 556 m , the highest point in Vevy is reached in the Bois des Chaumois.
Neighboring communities of Vevy are Crançot in the north, Hauteroche and Verges in the east, Publy in the south and Briod in the west.
history
The chapel of Vevy is mentioned for the first time in 1133. In the Middle Ages, Vevy formed its own small lordship and was the site of a hospital of the Order of St. John , which was destroyed in 1566. In 1639 the manor was sacked by the troops of Duke Bernhard von Sachsen-Weimar . Together with Franche-Comté , Vevy came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
The village church goes back to a chapel from the 14th century, which has been restored, enlarged and redesigned several times over the years. Only a few remains of the former manor house have survived.

With 274 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Vevy is one of the small communities in the Jura department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (301 people were still counted in 1886), population growth has been recorded again since the mid-1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Vevy was a predominantly agricultural and forestry village until well into the 20th century. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Lons-le-Saunier to Doucier . Further road connections exist with Crançot, Verges, Publy and Briod.
