Denezières is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Denezières is located at 640 m , about 21 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Lons-le-Saunier (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , on the high plateau of Champagnole between the Combe d'Ain in the west and the chains of the High Jura in the east, north of the valley of the Sirène brook.
The area of the 6.41 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. Almost the entire area is located on the Champagnole plateau, the average altitude of which is 640 m . This plateau is slightly undulating, with 673 m on a knoll south of the village, the highest point of Denezières being reached. It shows a loose structure of meadow and pasture land or forest. To the north, the municipal area extends into the extensive wooded area of the Bois de la Vie de Salins and in the extreme northwest into a basin on the edge of the Hérisson valley. The eastern border always runs on the upper edge of the slope that descends steeply to the Hérisson valley.
Neighboring communities of Denezières are Doucier in the north, Menétrux-en-Joux in the east, Saugeot and Uxelles in the south and Charcier in the west.
history
The Denezières area was cleared in the 12th century by the monks of Ilay, who built a chapel here in honor of St. Claudius (former abbot of Saint-Oyend-de-Joux, now Saint-Claude ). The land was donated to the Carthusian Monastery of Bonlieu in 1189. The name Denezières did not appear in the documents until the 13th century. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
The village church of Denezières was built in the 18th century and remodeled in the 19th century. The current Saint-Cloud chapel dates from the 15th century.

With 72 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Denezières is one of the smallest communities in the Jura department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (173 people were still counted in 1886), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Denezières was a village dominated by agriculture , especially cattle breeding and dairy farming, as well as forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is located away from the larger thoroughfares. Road connections exist via Uxelles with Clairvaux-les-Lacs , with Saugeot and Doucier.
